Looks like Blue Mountain is having its moment with young travelers this winter!

Airbnb’s latest data shows that Gen Z adventurers (those in their late teens and twenties) are turning their attention to this popular Ontario ski destination.

What’s interesting is the shift in travel patterns – young people are choosing to explore closer to home, with Canadian ski resorts being a top pick. Matt McNama from Airbnb points out something pretty relatable: “With living costs going up, people are getting creative with their getaways and looking for amazing experiences that don’t require crossing borders.”

The numbers tell quite a story about how Gen Z plans their winter escapes. Most of them (75%) are scrolling through the Airbnb app to map out their adventures, and they’re typically planning stays between 2-6 days – perfect for that long weekend getaway or mid-week ski break.

There’s more good news for future visitors to Blue Mountain – Collingwood just gave the green light to short-term rentals, with 200 licenses up for grabs. As McNama puts it, this means more options for folks looking to hit the slopes.

The whole trend emerged from comparing this year’s search patterns to last year’s, and Blue Mountain isn’t just trending – it’s near the top of Gen Z’s winter wishlist. Seems like Canada’s young travelers are discovering you don’t need to go far to find the perfect winter playground!
